Hydration is very important, especially in summer, and often requires replenishing mineral salts for proper balance.
With the hot season, profuse sweating is a constant for everyone, yet in many cases it is believed that theuse of mineral salts is a practice almost exclusively for athletes.
Actually, it's not like that. because problems caused by dehydration or electrolyte imbalance are common to everyone, across the board and with certain categories even more sensitive than others (such as, for example, people with hypertension and the elderly).
Certainly, constant and continuous water intake is the first aid; in fact, the golden rule is "drink before you feel thirsty," but avoid consuming large quantities at once.
Preventive measures alone may not be sufficient, as minerals are also lost through sweat and other fluid loss.
What causes a deficiency of mineral salts?
Mineral deficiencies are insidious in that they do not always manifest themselves immediately, yet thepsychophysical asthenia, the lack of concentration he cramps These are all symptoms easily attributable to a mineral deficiency; symptoms that the majority of people experience with a certain frequency and are not necessarily linked only to the summer season.
At this point, the importance of a good supplement that can support the need for replenishment comes into play. In this context, sodium and potassium are the minerals central to cellular balance (and a good supplement should provide at least 20% of the daily nutrient intake).
What are magnesium and potassium used for?
The magnesium It is the main mineral that oversees multiple metabolic and nervous functions.
The potassium It is one of the regulators of muscle contraction in continuous balance with sodium, a mineral usually very present as it is contained in many foods (think of cheese, ham and sausages).
However, the needs do not stop there. In fact, at the beginning we mentioned the hot season as a time when saline supplementation is necessary, but in reality, this is not the case as there can also be other causes, including dehydration from gastrointestinal problems or problems with premenstrual syndrome.
In all the cases just mentioned, once again, potassium and magnesium are two excellent supports for trying to restore balance and alleviate negative symptoms, but a third mineral, often forgotten, is also added: zinc.
What is zinc used for?
Zinc is too often associated with the solution of skin problems (many creams contain it), but in reality this mineral oversees many important functions related to tiredness, at the stress, at the immune system functionality and to the psychophysical fatigue.
It is therefore important that in a supplement dedicated to a general rebalancing, not only thought about sports activity, there must be a good component of this mineral.
The importance of vitamins C and E
Logically, when it comes to stress and the immune system, the presence of vitamin C, a central vitamin also as an antioxidant, is advisable if not essential. Associated with the function antioxidant and to the recovery then comes the advisable presence of the vitamin E, a vitamin that also plays its defensive role on skin and tissues.
A food supplement Designed and balanced in this way, it goes well beyond the "normal" mineral replenishment associated with summer; it also becomes a pro-energy support. This function could be emphasized by the desirable presence of carbohydrates nobles like the fructose (derived from fruit) and the maltodextrin (derived from starches).
For a supplement with such prerogatives, particular attention must be paid to flavors, with those related to citrus fruits certainly being the freshest, most pleasant and gratifying.
When to take mineral salts
Saline supplements can be used in the morning or during the day, perhaps in the presence of special moments (tiredness, but also simply a hot summer day).
Even the periods of intake can also be long, in fact, for a well-balanced supplement, there are no particular problems of overdose.
