    Why is fluid drainage important?

    Water retention is a condition characterized by the accumulation of fluid in the interstitial spaces, that is, between cells. It is not a disease in itself, but a physiological sign of an imbalance in the mechanisms that regulate the distribution, movement, and elimination of body water. Clinically, it manifests as localized swelling (lower limbs, abdomen, hips), a feeling of heaviness, skin tightness, and rapid weight fluctuations unrelated to changes in body fat.

    It's crucial to clarify an often misunderstood point: water retention isn't necessarily related to drinking too much; in fact, it's often a sign of a deficiency, and it doesn't even automatically coincide with a kidney problem.     The human body is composed of approximately 55–65% water, distributed in well-defined compartments:

    Water retention mainly affects interstitial water, not intracellular water.
